Green Coffee Beans: Fat Burning Fad?

Standard

Weight loss gimmicks. Some of them are frivolous; a few of them, downright dangerous. It isn’t often that a seeming “magic pill” notion comes along that is actually supported by science. But green coffee beans are a bit of an exception. At a gathering of the American Chemical Society earlier this year, researchers announced a gold-standard study where overweight or obese participants lost an average of 17 pounds and (more importantly!) 16% of their body fat over 22 weeks without making any other changes to their lifestyle. This was attained by consuming a rotating supplement of either a placebo, low-dose, or high-dose coffee been extract. It seems likely that the results would have been a lot more significant if participants had been on the high-dose extract all along. This is truly impressive.

Shocked? I was too. At least until I began researching the biochemical impact of chlorogenic acid. Prior to roasting, fresh green coffee beans are full of a compound called chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant that also happens to slow the absorption of sugars in the small intestines. It also appears to inhibit the secretion of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptides (quite a mouthful, huh? Just call them GIPs), a sort of hormone called an incretin which helps to trigger insulin secretion as a result of sugars we ingest. With less of an insulin surge, we don’t store as many calories as fat. But wait; there’s more! Chlorogenic acid also seems to slow an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphatase which controls release of sugars into overall circulation. This would promote the use of more stored body fat for fuel in our metabolism. An impressive set of skills for a lowly bean!

Interestingly enough (I hate to disappoint Dr. Oz fans), this is not actually “news”. As far back as 2007, an identical study revealed the fat-burning and weight-loss benefits of chlorogenic acid. But we know now that it is dose-dependent as well. You may also be interested to know that chlorogenic acid has been clinically shown to lower blood pressure significantly and improve the health of our critical arterial linings as well.

Found in many plant foods, the concentration of chlorogenic acid in coffee is many times greater than that in any other food. Unfortunately when we roast coffee beans (which often happens at very high temperatures), almost all of this lovely substance is split up into other ineffective compounds. So you can’t get these benefits by drinking another cup of Joe. You need the real, raw bean. Raw, green coffee beans taste quite bitter, so the best way to get the benefit is via a supplement. You need to take about 800mg twice daily (about 30-60 min. before a meal) to be in line with the study parameters study. And for this supplement in particular, it’s important to make sure you get a high-quality, pure extract with zero binders or fillers that will impair absorption.

Now the scientist in me wants to make sure you comprehend the caveats involved here… The study quoted above was not 100% gold-standard; there were some study design gaffs. However, I think the aggregate findings (and the prior study results) are compelling regardless. If you wish to drop some weight, I do think trying green coffee bean extract (GCBE) is a valid piece of your plan. But realize that no remedy is going to benefit everyone. GCBE will only assist you if your barriers to weight-loss are diet-related, insulin-related,and/or as a result of impaired thermogenesis which promotes fat-burning. There are many other reasons why folks can struggle to lose weight: undiagnosed food sensitivities, toxicity, hormone imbalance, chronic insufficient sleep, or chronic stress to mention a few. Ultimately you have to arrive at the real cause of what holds back your unique body. Be aware that GCBE does contain about a tenth the caffeine of coffee which may be a concern for some of you with a high sensitivity to stimulants. GCBE also isn’t a long-term fix. Ultimately – if you want to shed weight AND keep it off – you do have to make the diet changes that will naturally lessen your sugar absorption, repair your insulin resistance, and allow your body to shed fat sustainably again. But the GCBE can be a perfect quick start toward your weight loss goals. Every journey, no matter the length, always begins successfully with just a few small steps. Get going!

What is all the Excitement about Green Coffee Bean Extract; is it too good to be true?

Standard

You might be very aware of roasted coffee beans, the caffeine-laiden brown nuggets used to brew your morning cup of Joe. Before they were refined, roasted, and ground, those beans were Green Coffee Beans, the raw seeds harvested from from the berries of the Coffea plant. Green Coffee Beans contain Chlorogenic Acid (CGA,) an antioxidant sometimes marketed under the name brand Svetol. Green Coffee Bean Extract has been the subject of many recent studies as researchers attempt to harness its unique properties for use in the healthcare industry. Green Coffee Bean Extract is the concentrated Chlorogenic Acid removed from green coffee beans that has a large list of proven benefits, most notably for the promotion of weight reduction.

Benefits of Green Coffee:

Aids Natural Weight Loss
Boosts Metabolism
Prevents and Alleviates High Blood Pressure
Maintains Cardiovascular Health
Provides Antioxidant Immune Support

Right after the publication of several scientific studies, the medical community became very serious about the little bean purported to make such big changes. The corresponding media intrigue put Green Coffee Bean Extract into the lime light, with Oprah and Dr. Oz devoting screen time to discussing its usefulness as a weight reduction aid. This research evidence, combined with the results of the study repeated by Dr. Oz himself, all provides favorable results suggesting that Green Coffee Bean Extract can certainly be the miracle solution to losing weight without making life-altering changes.
Green Coffee Bean Extract is a proven weight reduction aid, but its benefits do not end there. The antioxidants in Green Coffee Bean Extract help safeguard the immune system from viral or bacterial invasion. Green Coffee Bean Extract also promotes heart health and can be used to regulate diabetes as it assists in the maintenance of blood pressure and healthy blood sugar.

How Does Green Coffee Bean Extract Impact Weight Loss Results?

The Chlorogenic Acid in Green Coffee Extract has a profound effect on the way the body metabolizes glucose. It is assumed that Chlorogenic Acid, when taken before a meal, suppresses the release of the glucose from the food you eat. Your body is then compelled to use its fat stores for energy. Burning these cells removes stubborn belly fat, but also draws from the fat blockages accountable for conditions such as fatty liver and coronary artery disease. Long term use has a proven effect on balancing the lean muscle to fat mass ratio that triggers obesity. Taking Green Coffee Bean Extract supplements can jump start a weight loss plan, awaken a lazy metabolism, and help you to reach your weight loss goal.

Advantages of Green Coffee Bean Extract

Burns fat & sugar
Suppresses appetite
Improves energy without jitteriness

What is Green Coffee Bean Extract?

Coffee beans are green before they are ever roasted, and in their natural green state they contain an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid. Science affirms that this compound is helpful for weight loss, coronary disease and diabetes. Roasting the coffee beans greatly cuts down the level of chlorogenic acid inherent within the bean itself, which is the reason green coffee bean extract is so advantageous.

Does Green Coffee Bean Extract Work?

Research published in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity tested two doses of extract–700 and 1,050 milligrams per day. Participants lost an average of 17 pounds in 12 weeks.

Important points:

Participants did not change their diet plan.
No new exercise sessions or workouts were implemented.
Participants simply took green coffee bean extract daily.

How Can Green Coffee Bean Extract Help You Lose Weight?

Chlorogenic acid is the synthesis of quinic acid and caffeic acid.

Reduces blood sugar levels

Green coffee beans contain a powerful compound called chlorogenic acid that inhibits the enzyme glucose-6-phosphatase. This enzyme promotes the development of sugar in the liver, thus inhibiting this enzyme translates into lower blood sugar levels.

Less sugar in the blood means there is less sugar for the liver to transform into fat.

Decreases fat absorption and increases fat loss

Various studies have proposed that chlorogenic acid not only slows the absorption of fat from food, but also boosts the burning of fat for energy. The outcome is lower fat accumulation and higher (non-jittery) energy levels, which in turn burns much more fat.

Magic Weight Reduction Coffee Beans?

Standard

All the recent hype about green coffee bean supplements as the solution to weight reduction had more than a few people at our office somewhat, well, hyper! You’d think everyone’s been drinking far too much coffee. But it’s true, Dr. Oz is saying this is the most exciting study he has seen on weight loss supplements in a long time…

Basically, a study was published in January 2012 in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity that showed some very promising results. Sixteen individuals were given either 700 or 1050 milligrams of green coffee bean extract daily for 3 months. The outcome? The testers lost an average of almost 18 pounds each!

Doctor Oz also had a couple of his audience members try it out for a week and both experienced weight loss of a few pounds in that short time period. And this is by taking the supplements only and not making any other changes to lifestyle. No wonder everyone’s excited.

For some background, green coffee means the unroasted beans. Coffee contains hundreds of components, including chlorogenic acid, which has been specifically proven to inhibit the formation of sugar in the liver. Various studies have shown that chlorogenic acid slows the formation of fat from food. But drinking your morning cup of Joe probably won’t do much to enhance weight loss since the roasting process removes most of the chlorogenic acid. Hence the necessity to take unroasted, or “green” coffee supplements.

Research says the supplement should not be taken by children or females who are pregnant or breastfeeding. And needless to say it’s always wise to consult your doctor before taking any type of medication, even a cup of coffee in pill form!

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Standard

Green coffee bean extract is a supplement that has been touted for its miraculous power to contribute to weight loss. Made from unroasted coffee beans, green coffee extract contains higher amounts of chlorogenic acid than traditional coffee made from roasted beans. The extract increased in popularity when TV doctor, Dr Mehmet Oz, revealed the outcomes of an experiment in which persons given the green coffee bean extract lost more weight than a control group. The extract has other benefits including reducing blood pressure levels. However, there are potential side effects for example negative interactions with other medications.

What is Green Coffee Bean Extract?

Green coffee bean extract, abbreviated GCBE, is an extract extracted from unroasted green coffee beans. Green coffee typically refers to coffee produced from ripe coffee beans that have not been roasted, and not from beans that are green in color or unripe. The most common coffee plants are the Arabica and Robusta. The beans used for the extract may be known as green, natural, raw or unroasted beans. Regular coffee is made by first roasting the ripe beans before they are ground and brewed for drinking. The roasting of the beans makes the coffee more palatable, with a smoky taste achieved. The taste is normally the primary attraction for coffee produced from roasted beans.

Coffee beans contain chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant which helps to speed up fat loss by impacting the way the body metabolizes fat. This acid also decreases the rate at which glucose is released into the blood vessels. It is these qualities of coffee beans that make them beneficial to a fat loss regimen. Chlorogenic acid is found in its highest concentration in the unroasted coffee beans. The heat used in the roasting process has a negative effect on the chlorogenic acid content as much of it is destroyed by the heat. Along with its higher chlorogenic acid content, green coffee bean extract also has less caffeine than regular coffee and therefore has a lower stimulating effect. The extract made from the beans is packaged into capsules and have a chlorogenic acid content ranging, ideally, from 40 % or more.

Alternative Names

Green coffee or the extract obtained from it may be called one of several names including Arabica green coffee beans, Café marchand, Coffea arabica, Coffea arnoldiana, Coffea liberica, Coffea robusta, GCBE, GCE, green coffee extract, green coffee powder, pure coffee bean, raw coffee, raw coffee extract, unroasted coffee bean extract or Robusta green coffee beans, amongst others. It is also well-known by the patented commercial brand names Svetol® and GCA, which make the extract from Robusta coffee beans.

Health Benefits of Moringa… The Remarkable Tale of Moringa

Standard

The story begins with one man viewing a Discovery Channel documentary on a plant grown in far away lands. As he watched, his interest piqued when he observed people literally being sustained by consuming small amounts of this miracle plant. So he began asking the right questions and the answers arrived from the likes of scientists, biochemists, and pharmacologists around the world. The man asking the questions was Ken Brailsford, a super achiever in the nutritional supplement industry.

With two other hugely successful nutrition companies to his credit, he knew this plant was a true nutritional miracle. Mr. Brailsford immediately recognized the potential of the practically unknown Moringa plant and all of the health rewards of Moringa. Fueled by the desire to share this miracle plant with the world, he dug deeper. He enlisted the research skills of medical professionals and found stacks of supporting research. The findings were overwhelming. And, with decades of research studies, he knew that it was time for the world to learn about Moringa – the “Miracle Tree”.

Moringa is a natural, nutritional powerhouse

While it’s one of many newer discoveries to modern science, Moringa has been making strides in various societies for hundreds of years. Moringa continues to amaze the scientific world with its amazing balance of antioxidants, minerals and amino acids. Obtain the health benefits of Moringa by requesting Green-Fu.

Ancient Indian writings, dating as far back as 150 B.C., refer to the Moringa plant and its uses. Early Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians prized Moringa for its therapeutic properties and also used it to shield skin, make perfume, and purify water for drinking. Now this humble plant, referred to as “the Miracle Tree,” is coming to the forefront through Green-Fu.

Nourishing the planet

A large number of humanitarian organizations now promote the use of Moringa in poverty-stricken areas to combat malnutrition and its adverse effects on the body. Groups for example Church World Service, Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization, National Science Foundation, and others are reintroducing the various health advantages of this fast-growing, drought-resistant plant to malnourished people in various underdeveloped areas. While conventional treatments for malnutrition normally take months, healthcare professionals have realized that individuals taking Moringa show improvement within days. Among the more wonderful things Moringa is being used for is to prevent childhood blindness, a condition that can develop from vitamin A and retinol deficiencies. Moringa contains sufficient levels of these nutrients to eliminate this condition.

Moringa Oleifera Used Against Malnutrition and Illness

Standard

Many people are not fully mindful of the link between malnutrition and disease. The body inherently has the ability to both withstand and fight disease. In order for this function to occur, the body, its organs and its defense mechanisms need certain nutrients in the correct quantities; if this balance is not maintained, the body cannot function fully and it starts to deteriorate.

A good example of this is the many children in developing nations who suffer from night blindness and other eye diseases and afflictions, due to the fact their diets do not contain vitamin A in the correct quantities. Adding a few tablespoons of nutrient-rich Moringa to their food can alleviate this and other health problems brought on by poor nutrition.

Considering the abundance and variety of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, as well as the high concentration in which a number of these nutrients can be found in the Moringa plant it is easy to understand why the Moringa benefits have been said to prevent 300 diseases.

Moringa trees have been employed to combat malnutrition, especially among infants and nursing mothers. There are various of NGOs that advocate Moringa as “natural nutrition for the tropics.” One author stated that:

“The nutritional properties of Moringa are now so well known that there seems to be little doubt of the substantial health benefit to be realized by consumption of Moringa leaf powder in situations where starvation is imminent.”

Moringa is particularly promising as a food source in the tropics because the tree is in full leaf at the end of the dry season when other foods are normally scarce. In developing countries, Moringa has the potential to improve nutrition, boost food security, foster rural development, and support sustainable land care.

How Can Moringa Help you?

Increased physical energy: increase your exercise routine and sports performance with naturally sourced nutrients to make your energy last longer.Emotional and mental balance: offers amazingly powerful nutrient compounds that help restore stability to the chemicals that govern our thoughts and emotions.

Faster recovery: Moringa Oleifera’s complete amino profile, along with plenty of minerals and vitamins, makes it an ideal recovery food after illness, surgery, and physical strain.

Healthy blood glucose levels: Moringa’s antioxidants and unique regulating compounds help control blood sugar levels and keep the blood free of unhealthy substances.

Nutrient-dense mother’s milk: increased iron, potassium, vitamins A, B, C, E, and many other essential nutrients are all readily absorbed from Moringa Oleifera and transferred from mother’s milk to the growing new-borns. Across African cultures it is known as “Mother’s Best Friend”.
